Biography:
The
histories and reminiscences in this collection were authored by Albert Lewis Callius and Charlyn
Godbey Callius. Albert and Charlyn, husband and wife, worked
for photographic studios in Birmingham in the
1940s and later established and
operated Tuscaloosa Photo Service.
Scope and Content:
This
collection contains copies of handwritten histories of the Godbey and Dobbs
families authored by
Albert Callius and a copy of a handwritten reminiscence of
her life written by Charlyn Callius.
In her
reminiscence Callius discusses her childhood as the daughter of a Methodist
minister and growing
up in various parts of Alabama including Birmingham,
Goodwater, Springville, and Valley Head. Callius also
discusses her memories of
seeing Haley's Comet, her years as a student at Athens College, her experiences
during the Great Depression, church life, marriage, the birth of her children,
and the work that she and her
husband did as photographers and owners of their
own photographic business.
