Governor
Joseph E. Brown and Wife.
"Governor
Brown's statue expresses the dignity and strength of character that enabled
him to so adequately accomplish the tremendous tasks of his administration
during the critical Civil War period and during his long public career.
His face appears somewhat stern and grave, carved by the weight of his
responsibilities. His hands are very significant; that which holds
the scroll representing Law is closed firmly and calmly showing perfect
power and control. The other is in a gentle position of ease and
tenderness as it rests lightly on the shoulder of his wife... binding the
two figures into a unified group as their mutual love and helpfulness bound
their lives into a unit." (from article in folder)
