Elizabeth Van der Veer was born in Frankfort, Kentucky in 1901. When she was ten, her family moved to New Orleans where she later attended Sophie Newcomb College and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She moved when her family bought a daily newspaper in Enid, Oklahoma, and then again to Kansas City and another newspaper. Elizabeth wrote the women's interest columns and assisted her brothers Ted and Stewart in managing the papers.
            The family moved to Birmingham in 1923 and established the Van der Veer Company advertising agency, which conducted direct-mail campaigns for local businesses. Elizabeth lived in Roebuck Springs. During the 1920s and 1930s she wrote stories for romance magazines.
            Elizabeth Van der Veer died March 6, 1993.

            Included in this collection are a few pieces of correspondence sent to Van der Veer by her publishing agents, newspaper articles both by and about the author, several issues of the magazines in which her stories appeared, and two photographs of the author.
