Archival ResourcesPhotograph Collections
The Archives Department's photo collections contain more than 400,000
images dating
from the 1840s to the 1990s. While primarily made up of 20th century paper
prints, the
collections also include examples of 19th century daguerreotypes, ambrotypes,
and
tintypes.
The majority of the photographs relate to the
Birmingham area, and the images include
local buildings, houses, churches, people, and events. The collections range
from the
works of professional photographers to family vacation snapshots.
Below is a listing of the department's major photograph collections.
