BPL Wins Blue Ribbon Award For Excellence In
Library Service
April 16, 2001

The Birmingham Public Library (AL) was recognized for excellence in
library service at the Alabama Library Association Convention in Montgomery,
AL, on April 13, 2001. The Association honored the library for
achievement of "Blue Ribbon Level" of Alabama Public Library
Standards.
The Alabama Public Library Standards consist of seventy-one criteria that
measure excellence in library service for public libraries in Alabama. An
objective group of public librarians from around the state and the Standards
Awards Committee of the Alabama Library Association investigate outstanding
public libraries. The Alabama Library Association awards the designation of
achievement at their annual convention.
"Blue Ribbon Level" achievement signifies that the Birmingham
Public Library has met or exceeded the seventy-one criteria that constitute
an outstanding public library. The Birmingham Public Library is one of only
three public libraries in the state to be honored for achievement of Alabama
Public Library Standards at the "Blue Ribbon Level."
