LIBRARY ASSISTANT II (CLERK), PART TIME
CENTRAL LIBRARY, GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS
TYPING TEST REQUIRED-25 WPM
DESCRIPTION
This position combines a heavy public service component with various skilled clerical responsibilities. Work is performed in the Government Documents/Microforms Department of the Central Library under the supervision of a professional librarian, with some latitude for independent judgement within established guidelines. Work may be reviewed upon completion.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Assist patrons in locating and using library materials.
- Processes documents for public use.
- Assists patrons in using copiers and microform readers and reader/printers.
- Checks in and files microforms.
- Performs related work as required.
- Performs some data entry and light clerical work.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment, including word processing and data entry.
- Ability to type accurately at a moderate working rate of speed.
- Ability to maintain moderately complex clerical records and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees.
- Physical requirements include the following: ability to stand for long periods; the strength to lift 25 pounds and push and maneuver loaded book trucks weighing 50 pounds or more; and the ability to stoop, bend, twist, and move materials from place to place in the library.
- Ability to read microforms, computer screens, and printed material.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, including or supplemented by coursework in keyboarding, experience in typing, and general clerical work. TYPING TEST REQUIRED (25 wpm minimum)
HOURS
43 hours biweekly, including weekends and evenings. Grade 10, Step 1, $10.50 per hour. Includes morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours, including Sundays. Employees may be required to adapt to future schedule and location changes depending on library needs. Must have the capability to substitute at other library locations as needed.
