C-SPAN to Feature Birmingham’s Civil Rights Past and the Birmingham Public Library on Sunday, Feb. 9

The Birmingham Public Library’s unique collection of items related to race and civil rights in Alabama will be featured on C-SPAN3 on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 7 a.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Sunday’s show can also be seen on www.c-span.org/live/

The network’s “American Artifact” series, which examines archives, museums and historic sites, will profile the library’s Department of Archives and Manuscripts. Featured artifacts will include a slave baptismal register, bomb fragments & shrapnel from one of the bombings of the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth's Bethel Baptist Church, and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s jail arrest docket during his1963 civil rights demonstrations in Birmingham.
