Central Library to host Google Workshop for Small Business Owners on Sept. 28
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Birmingham Public Library (BPL) and the City of Birmingham’s Office of Economic Development are partnering with Google and  Zeekee, a Birmingham digital  marketing firm, to help small businesses grow their presence online.
The workshop, “Let’s Put Birmingham on the Map With Google,” will feature lessons on Google Search and Maps, and Understanding Google Analytics and Google Insights. Two free versions of the same workshop will be offered back to back on Wednesday, Sept. 28.   The first will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.; the second workshop will be from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Both workshops will take place in the Central Library downtown, 2100 Park Place, inside the Story Castle on the second floor.

Space for the workshop is limited, so please register with Valencia S. Fisher in the City of Birmingham’s Office of Economic Development at as early as possible to reserve a spot.
“We want to help businesses get found online and not be digitally invisible,” said Kassady Gibson, Zeekee’s Google Trusted Photographer and Google Trusted Verifier. “ A business’ Goggle listing can act as a company’s digital brochure, and it is important your information is up to date and accurate. Plus, businesses can be verified on the spot during the meeting which makes the process as easy as possible.”
Four out of five consumers use search engines to find local information nearby, yet only 37 percent of businesses have claimed their listing on a search engine, said Emily Harris, manager of Google’s “Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map” program. “Small businesses are the engine of local economies, and when they flourish, their communities do as well,” Harris said.
If you are a current business owner and want to gain control of the information Google displays about your business in Google Search and Google Maps, then this workshop is for you. A Google Trusted Photographer and Trusted Verifier will be present to help your business get online and allow you to choose what people see when they “google” you.
