Pratt City
About
The new Pratt City Community library opened its doors September 12, 1993. The
old facility located at 820 2nd Street was built in 1963. The new facility has
8,140 square feet and cost $650,000 funded by a city of Birmingham bond. It has
a volume capacity of 45,000 and seats 153. The children's area with a playful
awareness of the community's history features a mock streetcar like the ones
which traveled the neighborhood at the turn of the century. The library further
acknowledges the rich and varied history of the Pratt City neighborhood with the
addition of space devoted to a community museum known as the Pratt City
Historical Archives.
