Rare Book Room
About the Department
The Birmingham Public Library maintains a Rare Book Room in the Linn-Henley building of the
Central Library to house rare and valuable materials.
These materials never circulate and are rarely reproduced because of their age,
condition, scarcity, and importance. They may be used and viewed in the Central Library
by appointment. Restrictions will apply to their use and accessibility.
In some instances, fragile and irreplaceable materials may not be handled,
but visitors are welcome to view them with the help of a librarian.
An appointment made in advance will enable the library staff time to prepare
and ready the materials.
