Biographical Information
Newman Hosmer Waters (1897 – 1973) was a Birmingham real estate developer who built a number of drive-in movie theaters and theater houses in the Birmingham area in the 1930's and 1940's. Waters also developed Office Park in Mountain Brook, Eastwood Mall, and several major office buildings in downtown Birmingham. Waters was a director of Southern Electric Steel Company. Institutions and organizations Waters supported included the Downtown Club (president 1947), Downtown Improvement Association (president 1958), Athens College, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

This collection covers a range of topics including Waters’ philanthropic activities, personal relationships, membership organizations, and business interests. The collection includes primarily newspaper clippings with some correspondence, bulletins, photographs, and other printed materials.
