Alabama Geological Survey  The Geological Survey of Alabama, established in 1848, is a data gathering and research agency that explores and evaluates the mineral, water, energy, biological, and other natural resources of the State of Alabama and conducts basic and applied research in these fields as a public service to citizens of the State.  Geological maps and data are available for the State of Alabama.  Maps may be viewed via HTML or Java.

Earthquake Information Center  A product of the U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Center, this site offers the most timely information available about recent earthquakes.  Information is available on the most notable earthquakes.

Geologylink  Authored by Houghton Mifflin, this site has won numerous awards and is an excellent starting point for students seeking geological information.  Main features include: The Earth Today, Geology in the News, Inside Geology, and virtual classrooms and field tours.  The site also incorporates an in-depth glossary.

NASA: Earth Observatory    An invaluable site created and maintained by NASA. The purpose of NASA's Earth Observatory is to provide a freely-accessible publication on the Internet where the public can obtain new satellite imagery and scientific information about our home planet. The focus is on Earth's climate and environmental change.  Check out the Reference section for information on Atmosphere, Oceans, Land, Life on Earth, Heat & Energy, Remote Sensing, and Pioneers in GeoScience. A superb site for students.

Volcano World   Selected by the U.S. News Online as a "Standout Science Site", Volcano World bills itself as the Web's "premiere source of Volcano info" and it delivers.  The site is from the University of North Dakota and has a wide variety of useful features, starting with indexes of volcanoes sorted by region, country, and name.  Other notable features include Volcano of the Week, Today in Volcano History, Ask a Volcanologist, and photographs of volcanoes.  An invaluable reference of volcanoes.

U.S. Geological Survey: Geological Information  An excellent site from the U.S. Geological Survey, this site provides information on earthquakes, volcanoes, earth surface dynamics, mapping, coastal & marine geology, minerals, and energy.  Visitors may also pose questions using the Ask-a-Geologist feature.
