First Light provides emergency shelter and food to homeless women and children, long-term housing for elderly and mentally ill homeless women, a literacy program, an after-school performing arts program for at-risk youth, an apprenticeship program for adults seeking a new job skill with work experience, and opportunities to meet with agencies and organizations that can provide  parenting skills and help in keeping families healthy and working together.
