Ask A Genealogy or Local History Question using Instant Messaging

IM (Instant Messaging)
Ask a question through a live chat session with a librarian through Instant Messenger services. 

Librarians are available Monday through Friday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the following screen names:

Librarians are often on IM at other times too. Add the library to your buddy list and if we are online you are welcomed to use IM to ask a question.

IM is a way to communicate in real time with two or more people through exchanged typed messages.

What do I need to do to be able to IM a Librarian?

Will a librarian answer immediately or will I have to wait?
In person patrons have first priority. But your question will be answered as soon as possible on a first-come, first-served basis.

What kinds of questions can a librarian answer?
Requests for factual information.
Policy and procedural questions.
Questions that can be answered by Who, What, When, Where, or How.

Is IM available for use inside the library?
At the present time, IM is only available outside the library.
