Hand-tinted map of Asia extending to include Japan, the Phillipines and most of Indonesia, showing political boundaries; relief shown pictorially.; In Latin.; Originally published in Introductionis in universam geographicam by Philipp Cluver.; In upper right hand margin; Tab : 35.; Cartouche in upper left quadrant with female representation of Asia along with a large cat and a parrot.; Numerous place names are given except in China which has no names and is filled with a network of lakes and rivers.; The outline of Asia follows the Mercator-Hondius model with the Arctic and extreme coastlines truncated, an elongated Korean peninsula and a narrow Indian subcontinent.

Kircher was one of the first compilers of semi-scientific knowledge about the physical features of the world. This very unusual map depicts all of southern Asia from the Arabian peninsula to the Philippines including the East Indies to the Celebes. It extends north to show part of the Caspian Sea. The principal regions and countries named, plus the major rivers, lakes and mountains. A huge subterranean lake in the area of Nepal and Tibet is the principle source for most of the rivers in Asia. Decorative title cartouche features angels or putti, and Neptune.

Prime meridian: apparently Cape Verde.; A revised and updated version of Homann's 1712 map of Asia.; Relief shown pictorially.; Ornate title cartouche in lower left corner depicts an enthroned king in Middle Eastern or Indian dress, bowing subjects, trade goods, and various animals.; In upper right corner are notes entitled "Benevole Spectatur". Unlike other editions, no cartouche is used.
